Mm, I've been pretty busy lately. It's that time of year again: Texas All-region band tryouts.
Thankfully, though, they're over now. Finished on Monday night.
Before I talk about the results, I'd like a say a little about the process...It's different in Texas than anywhere else.
In July, music is released, different for each instrument, that students learn to play, and, in December, they play it for a panel of judges and are ranked.
A certain number of these students are called back the following Monday night, to play again.
This time, they're ranked in chair order for the All-region band clinic. The top 2-4 in each instrument also move on to Area tryouts.
In early January, Area tryouts take place. The top 2 (per instrument) at Area will advance to State.
And, well, there's a lot more to it than that, but there it is in a nutshell.
Anyway, at Phase 1 of tryouts, I placed fourth. So, I got called back to phase 2!
Where I placed second.
I'm going to area!! This doesn't mean much to non-band people, but it's really, really exciting. My year's goal is to make State--and I'm on my way there, now!
I really gotta make that music amazing, though. XD
On a completely unrelated note, I'm quite hooked on the "Nightrunner" series. I'm very impatient for Stalking Darkness to arrive in the mail...>_>'''

Salvation based on Damnation...is it worth it?
I think that TMEA does it separately form ATSSB. D: It makes me sad.

In North Dakota, you just audition for All-State (either sending in tapes or going in front of a panel) and a certain number of people are picked per section. I'm not sure how the chairs are selected (I'm guessing you audition again once you get there?), since I've never gone. It's cool that you're getting far, I wish you luck.

Last year, I think we all did it at the same time, but we got in different lines or something. I'm not sure. I'll ask my band director.
Let me know what s/he says, please. XD

Wow, that's different. I believe Area tryouts used to be by recording, in Texas, but not anymore...Thanks again. I'm pretty excited. XD

Yeah, it is. But then again, I think the way it happens for you is different.
No problem. I hope that excitement turns into a good performance.
